<MILD SPOILERS AHEAD>

In Barangay Tabang-lupa resides Atoy Padua (Dingdong Dantes), a reclusive seamster who keeps his late father’s modest tailoring shop open.

With the front of a seemingly nondescript, quietlife sewing clothes, the tailor has a secret side hustle. A former Scout Ranger, Atoy moonlights as a specialist for finding people and objects of interest, both high and low profile- all paying well enough for him to invest in his own equipment for vigilante work.

Beneath Atoy’s façade as a standoffish neighborhood tailor is a past filled with tragedy.  In his teen years, Atoy discovered that his father had an affair while his mother was dying- creating an irreversible rift between him and his father. His mother passed away, and Atoy leaves home for military training, to get away from his father.

On one of his missions as a Scout Ranger on a far-flung island, Atoy meetsan intriguing teacherwho turned out to be the daughter of a prominent mobster. When he completes his mission, Audrey disappears mysteriously, and Atoy returns to Tabang-Lupa – and resumes his contentious relationship with his father.

When they finally reconcile, tragedy strikes. His father is killed in a hit and run.

Cut to present day, Atoy, now freelance, solves crimes in and around their neighborhood. On his solo missions, Atoy uses skills he learned growing up in the family business to create disguises, and skills learned from his time in the military to fight.

Without knowing it, these cases bring him closer and closer to his father’s killer.

Atoy meets several friends and helpers along the way in spite of his standoffish personality. He takes in a duo of former pickpockets, hires a shop assistant – the estranged sister of his rival tailor, and maintains a close relationship with his father’s former shop assistant who gives him motherly advice.

Without realizing it, reclusive Atoy is surrounded by the kind of love he had been missing out on for most of his life.

It reminds me of this verse.

Psalm 68:6 in the New International Version (NIV) states: "God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land."

Atoy had been so used to living and surviving alone because both his parents passed away early in life.

But what was in store for him was much more than he had planned.

When you look at your own life, it can be marred by grief or by things you wished hadn’t happened. But it opens you up to new, unexpected things – and you’ll realize that life can be beautiful in other ways you couldn’t have imagined.
